|

I know a recent episode touched on this, but I just am not getting this environment business relating to setting up and effectively using external MIDI gear. I'm used to DP where it provides the patch lists (based on your AMS settings) and all you have to do is select the channel, then the patch. Simple.
Having to create patch lists seems ridiculous, but for one of my external boxes (a Proteus 2000), I was able to find an object from someone online. But even when I open it, I don't understand how to make it work correctly; I can't figure out how to choose a specific patch and actually hear the one I thought I selected. It seems like Logic only lets you choose 1-16 (the channel). How do you then select any of the patches available?
I think the new version on Logic is much more intuitive than previous versions, but this seems really illogical to me!
Some more help on this in an episode would be most helpful! |

The environment editor is worth a whole series of episodes! It's one of the main reasons that Logic (especially in the Emagic days) had a reputation of having a very high learning curve.
When Apple introduced Core MIDI services in OS X, it was a step in the right direction. Users didn't have to worry about OMS or FreeMIDI setups, and conflicts for those people needing both! But its patch management has never really matured. I think an episode on patch management within Logic's environment editor would be worth while. It involves knowing a bit about the MIDI implementation of your synth, but once set up, it works really well!
